Nyala Bulock, MA, CAA
Nyala Bulock is a proud Kansas City, Missouri, native whose passion for athletics, leadership, and youth development has shaped an accomplished career spanning coaching, athletic administration, and professional sports. A graduate of Central High School, she earned both academic and athletic scholarships to attend Park University, where she received her bachelor's degree. She later earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Baker University in 2015 and has continued to build a career centered on developing student-athletes, coaches, and educational communities.
Coach Bulock's coaching career at Central High School before moving to St. Teresa's Academy, where she helped guide the volleyball program to back-to-back Missouri State Tournament appearances. She later served as the Head Volleyball Coach at Van Horn High School from 2017 - 2020, where she transformed the program into a highly competitive force. During her tenure, she was named the Crossroads Conference Coach of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.

From 2020 to 2022, Coach Bulock led the volleyball program at Raytown High School before transitioning into athletic administration with Kansas City Public Schools. She currently serves as the Assistant District Athletic Director and District K-12 Health & Physical Education Curriculum Coordinator. In this leadership role, she oversees district athletic initiatives, develops elementary sports programming, supports coaches and student-athletes, and coordinates K-12 physical education curriculum. She is also recognized as a trailblazer for girls flag football, working alongside the Kansas City Chiefs to expand opportunities and increase participation for female student-athletes throughout the district.
Beyond volleyball, Coach Bulock enjoyed an outstanding 16-year career in professional women's tackle football. She began with the original Kansas City women's football team, the Kansas City Crushers, before continuing her career with the Oklahoma City Lightning, where she met her husband, Leonard Bulock. Together, they returned to Kansas City and helped establish the Kansas City Spartans, which later became the Kansas City Titans. She concluded her playing career in 2019 as a seven-time Women's Football Alliance (WFA) All-American Free Safety, earning recognition as one of the league's premier defensive players.
In addition to her work in education, Coach Bulock is the Founder and Club Director of Mentality Volleyball Club (MVBC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing young women and men with high-level volleyball instruction, leadership development, mentorship, and opportunities to pursue collegiate athletics. Under her leadership, MVBC has become known for developing confident athletes while emphasizing character, accountability, academic excellence, and community service. The club motto, "Losing is Not an Option", reflects a commitment to pursuing excellence in every aspect of life.
Coach Bulock is married to Leonard Bulock, Defensive Coordinator at Grandview High School. Together they have two daughters, Zoe and Ivy Bulock, who are both active members of the Mentality Volleyball Club family. They are also blessed with five wonderful stepchildren and nine grandchildren who bring tremendous joy to their lives.
A devoted follower of Christ, Coach Bulock believes athletics provide a powerful platform to inspire, mentor, and transform lives. Whether leading student-athletes, building programs, or serving her community, her mission remains the same: to empower others to discover their purpose, pursue excellence, and become leaders both on and off the court. Outside of athletics, she enjoys spending time with her family, working out, relaxing at the park, and enthusiastically supporting her daughters as they pursue the sport they love.
